The 2.5” lift height makes this kit perfect for drivers who want better handling and a more level stance but aren’t looking for giant shocks or extreme changes in ride height.

The Problem with Factory Suspension Systems 

The factory springs that come standard on 3/4-ton and 1-ton Dodge Ram trucks are designed to accommodate heavy loads, but when the bed is empty, they also create rough riding conditions for drivers and passengers. Each time drivers hit a pothole, or even an expansion joint, everyone in the cab goes flying. Some drivers just live with this inconvenience, but they don’t have to. Buying a Carli Leveling Kit is the best way to improve rider comfort and load safety for light hauls.

Choosing the Right Suspension System 

Truck owners who have found their way here are already on the right track since Carli Suspension has a well-deserved reputation for excellence. This industry leader offers nine different 3” lift systems for Dodge Rams, though, and each kit comes with a variety of optional add-ons. Here’s what drivers need to know about each kit to make an informed decision about which of them to buy:

Starter Kits

The starter kit, or base kit, is the most budget-friendly option, but it doesn’t sacrifice quality for a low price point. Like all products in the Carli Signature Series, the base 2014-2018 Dodge Ram Leveling Kit features taller Linear Rate Coil front springs that offer a 2.5” lift and a 50% increase in wheel travel over the stock suspension. These taller springs are paired with custom-tuned Signature Series front shocks for a smoother ride, whether drivers are hauling weight or riding around town with an empty bed.

Carli Suspension’s Signature Series shocks feature zinc plating and are treated with a clear coat for improved corrosion resistance. They’re also finished with boots to protect the shafts and come with a limited lifetime warranty.

The base kit also includes custom-tuned rear shocks designed for use with factory rear coil springs. Retaining the factory rear springs means that load capacity will not be modified. Plus, the 2.5” lift height doesn’t require front or rear geometry correction for trucks with 3” systems.

Commuter Kits

Carli Suspension’s Commuter Leveling Kit uses the same springs as the base system but has upgraded Fox 2.0 IFP shocks and comes standard with an adjustable track bar designed to compensate for the slight leftward pull on the front axle created when installing any suspension lift kit. Some drivers also like to upgrade to the Torsion Sway Bar to enhance ride quality.

Serious drivers should consider this upgrade a necessity rather than a luxury. The adjustable track bar makes a big difference when it comes to steering wheel play and the price tag on the Commuter kit is still low enough to fit most budgets. It’s the best solution for drivers who spend most of their time behind the wheel on paved roads but want to be able to take on more strenuous conditions without worrying about their trucks.

Backcountry Kits

The primary difference between the Commuter kit and the Backcountry kit is that the latter comes with Fox 2.0 External Reservoir shocks to prevent shock fade. Suspension lift kits at this level also come standard with limit straps to prevent shock damage. Truck owners who like to head off-road more than a few times a year will find that these upgrades are worth the investment, especially if they want a smooth ride on bumpy terrain.

Pintop Kits

The Pintop system is the best of the best when it comes to improved handling and performance both on the pavement and off-road for drivers who don’t want to exceed a 3” lift height. It’s not quite as budget-friendly as the Starter or Commuter kit, but it offers a lot of bang for the buck.

The Pintop system includes custom-valved King 2.5” remote reservoir shocks on both axles for better control. That half-inch of extra surface area allows drivers to push their shocks harder for longer without worrying about longevity or safety, which means off-road enthusiasts don’t have to worry about getting stuck out in the brush. Experienced drivers recommend correcting the caster via slight eccentric bolt compensation after installing the kit to make up for the lack of Radius Arm Drops.

The Pintop system also offers an incredibly smooth ride on even bumpy pavement, making it a great option for those looking for maximum return on their investments. The Pintop package is not upgradeable to other 3” Carli suspension systems. Carli does offer four more 3” performance levels, but they go above and beyond those listed above and come with price tags to match. Unless they plan on taking their trucks off jumps and have it in the budget to install roll cages, race seats, and harnesses, upgrading to the top-of-the-line Unchained 3.5 Long Arm System would be overkill.

Tire and Wheel Fitment

The Carli Suspension Leveling Kit will fit tires up to 35” and wheels up to 9” wide with 5.5-6” backspace without modifying the stock control arms. For larger tires and wheels, drivers will need to upgrade to High-Clearance Control Arms.

The Bottom Line

Carli Suspension has a well-deserved reputation for excellence when it comes to off-road products. This Carli Leveling System is designed for the customer that keeps their truck on the road with an eye for quality and appreciation for bang-for-their-buck. At the heart of this system is a 2.5" lift, Linear Rate Coil Spring paired to matched travel Fox 2.0" IFP Shocks that have been custom-tuned, in house, for superior ride quality and handling. 


The rear shocks are also included with this system and have been custom-tuned to maximize the ride quality for the factory rear coil springs. As the rear springs remain unmodified, load capacity is maintained while predictability is improved. For those that aren't looking for a massive increase in travel or big shocks but still desire a level stance and improved ride quality and handling characteristics, this is the perfect kit. The 2.5" lift height doesn't require the front or rear geometry correction of our 3" Systems.

The front axle will be slightly pulled to the Driver's side following installation of the lift; this can be corrected with the addition of our Adjustable Track Bar. Further, ride quality can be substantially increased with the addition of our Torsion Sway Bar. We recommend a 35" tire on a wheel that's no more than 9" wide with 5.5"-6" Backspace. An 18" diameter wheel will be best to ensure optimal ride quality (more rubber = better small bump compliance) and an unloaded tire pressure of 45F/40R is recommended. The addition of a Carli Low-Mount Steering Stabilizer is recommended for any tire over factory size.

**This system will NOT be upgradeable to any other Carli 3" Suspension Systems.** It’s designed to be a solution for customers wanting a quality system with minimal lift and part inclusion. Customers can purchase the Pintop leveling shock package for a huge boost in on-road control and off-road performance as well as ancillary components compatible with this lift height but there isn’t compatibility between the 2.5″ leveling and 3″ lift systems.

We recommend slight eccentric bolt compensation to correct caster after the lift as there are no Radius Arm Drops. For this reason, customers may experience a slight bow in the coil spring. We did not experience a coil bow in any of our test trucks but it’s possible at the 2.5” lift height without a Radius Arm Drop Bracket.
